Another First-Round Pick Joins Skidding Pirates

Nick Gonzales Called Up from Minors

Pittsburgh Continues to Reinforce Young Roster

MIAMI, FL - The struggling Pittsburgh Pirates have made another move to bolster their roster by calling up first-round draft pick Nick Gonzales from their Triple-A affiliate, the Indianapolis Indians.

Gonzales, a right-handed infielder, was drafted by the Pirates in 2020 after a standout college career at New Mexico State University. He has impressed in the minors this season, batting .312 with six home runs and 24 RBIs in 67 games.

The Pirates are hoping that Gonzales can provide a spark to a team that has lost 12 of their last 15 games and is currently in last place in the NL Central Division. Gonzales is expected to make his Major League debut on Saturday against the Miami Marlins.

The Pirates have been forced to rely heavily on young players this season due to injuries and poor performance from some of their veterans. The addition of Gonzales is another sign that the Pirates are committed to developing their young talent and building for the future.
